Trashed, Or, Recycle Binicide

Sometime in the wee earlies of the day, someone armed an idiot with a motor vehicle. Proceeding down our street at a good clip, said idiot decided that it would be good fun to ram a large green recycle bin or two. Ray found the mess when he went out to go to work this am.

Based on the debris field, the recycle bin killer came from the south and hit the bin in front of the house to the south of us, which sent the bin flying at least 15 or 16 feet into the back of my van, where it scraped paint off. The bin dropped it's load all along the way. Then the momentum carried the bin up and over the roof of the van (more droppage) and finally slammed the bin down the passenger side of the van. Major marks on the rear side glass and major dentage on the rear quarter panel where the falling bin hit. That bin has a huge gaping crack from top to bottom and is missing a wheel, which I have not yet found. Maybe he took it away as a souvenier or mayhap it is embedded in his radiator.

The perp managed to miss Ray's truck, although when I cleaned up all the recycle I found 3 sets of tire marks to delineate his/her passage. One set of tracks came close to the truck, but missed.

Next, the vehicle slammed into our recycle bin. Ha. Suprise! THAT bin was loaded and overloaded with the sod from the location of the new tomato garden. 3 X 20 feet of thick sod. It was also backed up by a close grouping of several big brown bags of sod. Our bin fell and spilled some of it's load and the bags fell over, but my guess is the perp got what's coming to him/her in the form of damage to their own vehicle.

So at quarter to 6, an hour I did not even know existed, I was out in the driveway cleaning up my neighbor's formerly airborne green waste. Now, around here we can put food scraps into our green bins, and our neighbor surely does this. You have not truly experienced all of life's smells until you have spent some time before sunrise picking your neighbor's half rotted shrimp tails out of your turf. And their lettuce, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, canteloupe and bananas. Gack what a smell.

Two kind women out walking their dog stopped and helped me get our toppled green bin upright and it suffered minor damage only. All the spilled greenery/groceries fit into my remaining brown bags and Geneva's greens bin.

All bins and bags are uprighted and full of greenage and there is little evidence of binicide. Reportage to the local constabulary, the trash company and the insurance company has occurred and the damage will be repaired. The repair shop has already called to set an appointment. All is as it should be.

All except for the 3 hours of sleep I didn't get.

Drunken Rascals in the great Northworst? Maybe just kids all hyped up on your local coffee? People do odd things up there.

Perhaps it was a rival gang of geneology-addicted triker chics escalating a turf war. :)

I think TJ must have hit the nail on the head.

Triker chicks, especially genealogy-addicted ones, are a tough bunch. As long as we have our automatic transmissions, our three wheels and our heated clothing. And it's not raining or snowing or hailing or just plain ugly.

but then again, genealogy-addicted triker chicks are in bed in the wee earlies, so I think Brer Bear is on the right track.

I just take comfort in knowing whoever did it surely took a big hit from our 10 ton sod-loded recycle bin. Revenge of the bins!
